It’s Voting Time

2022 general local elections are occurring throughout the Comox Valley in October and include elections for municipal councils, and regional district electoral areas. You may be curious why UROC is mentioning this in a newsletter. We sent some questions to all candidates in the Comox Valley asking about ongoing support of the trails and the United Riders of Cumberland. We have received numerous responses from candidates and compiled all the answers into their respective areas for your reading. Voting is on October 15th #elections

Members Night Meet and Greet

On Thursday evening 8pm till 10pm (Oct 13th) at the Masonic hall in Cumberland we are having a meet and greet shared with a cheeky barrel of beer for UROC membership.

Come and meet the trail builders, the trail crew, the UROC board of directors and staff and talk bikes, trails, forests and what the future holds for our beloved trail network. You can pick up some UROC swag and munch on some light snacks.

No need to make a reservation, you must be a UROC member and we look forward to seeing you on the 13th Oct, between 8pm – 10pm… we suggest you get there on time to make sure the keg is still pouring!

85 Days of Summer

Its been 85 days of sunshine with no significant raindays during that time. The ground on Vancouver Island has been measured as drier than the desert of Las Vegas! Fact.

It comes with no surprize that there is still an extreme risk of forest fires and we continue to ask trail users to monitor the lands and remain cautious against the risk of fire. ‘Augtober’ has meant ground cover resembles fire fuel as opposed to temporate rain forest and many trails are a dustbowl and have zero mosture on the surface.

When the first rains eventually arrive it may take some time for the bone dry dirt to allow moisture to set in. When this happens we can all revel in hero dirt conditions and we can hope to open up some new trail experiences for you to enjoy.
