Island Cup XC – the return of spandex and suffering

Posted on

After a 2-year hiatus, Island Cup, XC racing returned to Cumberland on Sunday, May 15th. This was stop #6 of the Island Cup XC series and we were fortunate to be back racing. 116 racers braved the muddy and wet conditions which we’ve all become accustomed to over the past 5 months. The course was a great mix of technical singletrack with plenty of climbing and fast descents. Just before the main event 23 kids lined up for a fun loop around the network and were rewarded at the end with a chocolate medal courtesy of Darkside Chocolates. The post-race festivities included handing out lots of UROC swag and a BBQ.

UROC wishes to thank all the volunteers that braved the weather and helped make sure this event was a huge success. UROC also wishes to thank Scott Mitchell of Trek ProCity Victoria and Chris Makuch for all their time organizing the Island Cup series.

Next up for UROC is the Coaltown Throwdown Women’s Enduro on Saturday, June 4th and the Twelve Hours of Cumberland on Saturday, June 25th. Registration is still open for the 12 Hours and can be found here.
