AGM Report

Posted on

Hi Everyone

Just wanted to say thanks to all members that were able to make it out to the AGM. There were some really great questions asked about the club and how we operate. In order to help keep all of you informed here is some highlights from the 2011 season as well as some answers to some questions that were asked by member. Questions below, highlights following

Why is UROC so focused on Racing?
Racing provides the Club with its biggest source of revenue which allows the club to operate, subsidize programs such as Kids Club and work on Special Projects. Memberships and fundraising account for less then 15% of Club revenues.

Why do I need to pay $47 for a membership?
This covers the basic insurance to allow you to participate in club activities. $37 of that goes directly to Cycling BC for Memberships. Think of this as your basic insurance needed for driving a vehicle. Uroc will speak to Cycling BC to see if there is an option for family insurance.

How do you communicate to the membership?
We have recognized that communication has not been our strong point. As such we have started working with Colin Wilson to assist with web and Face book updates. Please continue to check back in at FB or our web site for news and event updates

Why is the board made up of 9 people? What do they do?
The board is a Working board. For those that do not understand this essentially it means that the board takes on the majority of the work for the club, including but not limited to….Races, group rides, event permitting, sponsors, insurance, risk management, working with local, regional and provincial government agencies and associations. As such the board seeks out individuals who have the time to commit to these obligations and those that have expertise in these areas. We are ALWAYS looking for help from everyone and anyone, so if you have time or skills to help us out get in touch with us. Sometimes just showing up day of an event will give you an idea of what goes on and how you can help.

If you have ideas for club activities or events or any other thoughts on how the club can function better let us know! We have resources and access to insurance to help with your event.
