New Trail Adventures: Cumberland Glamping Village (CGV)

Canada is famous for its endless water supply and lakeside living, so we’re thrilled to announce UROC’s boldest project yet: lakeside glamping accommodations on Cumberland’s surrounding lakes within the trail network.

With the endorsement of partners, provision of local investment, and the unwavering support of UROC’s local businesses and sponsors, we collectively recognize the need to boost year-round tourism in the Comox Valley.

The Cumberland Glamping Village (CGV) is set to commence development this month, with floating platforms being installed in time for spring and summer check-ins. Guests will be able to pedal straight from Cumberland’s world-famous trails onto their own eco-friendly, fully self-sufficient floating glampsite.

After extensive testing, rigorous engineering, and absolutely no corners cut, all safety, water and waste management, and off-grid solar energy systems have been fully permitted to proceed development.

We want to add much-needed beds to the Cumberland area and expand outdoor adventure opportunities tied directly into the trail network,” said Jeremy Grasby of Riding Fool Accommodation, the lead partner in this new venture.

We need to diversify our income streams to support our growing annual trail maintenance costs. Visitor numbers to the trail network are up 20% year on year since 2019, and we need to plan long term,” said Dougal Browne, Executive Director of United Riders of Cumberland. Dougal went on to say “This is officially taking mountain biking and lakeside ride-in, ride-out accommodation to the next level while helping secure long-term financial stability for our organization.

Each of the three glamping camps will be bike-friendly and powered off-grid, complete with solar charging stations for e-bikes. Access to the floating decks will be strictly non-motorized, so guests will bike pack their overnight provisions to their site.

Concerned about waste or pollution in the waterways? Don’t be. All accommodations will be fully serviced, with designated smart facilities located on land away from the lakes.

Look out for updates via UROC newsletters in the coming months. All glamping decks will be available for advance booking via the UROC website. Check-in dates available (here)
