
Trail Holistics Level 1 trail building and maintenance course
THE FOUNDATION INTRODUCES THE HOLISTIC APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLE TRAIL CARE AND CONSTRUCTION.
Level I: The Foundation
We discuss current industry standards, guidelines and best management practices for sustainable trail construction, repair, and maintenance. Topics covered include layout/design, trail assessment, realignment & repair, hazard & structure assessment, classification, and risk management. Building to regional factors is emphasized as participants are introduced to the concept of the Sustainability Equation. A thorough overview of current guidelines is provided, identifying gaps, and applying up to date best management practices. Once participants become conversant with the baseline foundational concepts, the emphasis is on an adaptable and innovative approach to build world class trails.
Applicable for: Volunteers and trail associations that include non-motorized, MTB, hiking & multi-use trails. You must be a UROC member to join this course.

Location and timings:
Day 1: Morning – 9.15am to 1pm – Buchanan Hall, 2674 Buchanan hall, Cumberland, BC
Day 1: Afternoon – 1.30pm to finish – A new trail build near ‘Lost Toque’ & ‘Entrails’ in the Cumberland Network.
Day 2: Morning 9.15am to 11am – Practical training in the network.
Day 2: Afternoon – 11am to finish – A new trail build near ‘Lost Toque’ & ‘Entrails’ in the Cumberland Network.
What to bring
Note-taking equipment, personal snacks, and drinks. Work gloves and sensible footwear. Waterproofs if it’s raining and clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty! You can ride in and ride out of the trail location on both days. Trail tools will be provided on location.
Course fees – $75 per person.
