UROC AGM to kick off another exciting year of biking

Fresh off one of their most exciting years to date, the United Riders of Cumberland (UROC) are kicking off 2016 with its annual general meeting (AGM), which is open to the public on Sunday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Waverley Hotel.

Of particular interest to anyone who enjoys Cumberland’s vast trail network will be detailed information on the new land access agreement between UROC, the Village of Cumberland, TimberWest Forest Corp., and Hancock Forest Management. This long-anticipated agreement formally allows non-motorized recreation on the private lands around the Village of Cumberland.

“We were thrilled to announce the signing of the land access agreement, which we’ve been working on for several years,” says UROC president Mike Manara. “We’re incredibly excited about what it means for the future of mountain biking in Cumberland.”

The AGM will give UROC’s 180 members a chance to vote in a new board of directors, learn the results of past events and find out what’s in store for 2016. Memberships will be available for mountain bike enthusiasts who are not yet UROC members.

Attendees of the AGM will also find out about plans for the Cumberland mountain bike jump park, construction of which is expected to begin this year, and a lively after party will set the tone for a brand new year of high-octane activity.

“2015 was a groundbreaking year, and 2016 looks like it will pick up where 2015 left off,” says Manara. “If you’re at all interested in mountain biking in the Comox Valley, I highly encourage you to get involved. Being part of UROC is an excellent way to help shape the direction of the sport and the development of our trail network.”

Established in 2008, UROC’s mandate includes building and maintaining mountain bike infrastructure, hosting races and group rides, facilitating access to trails and generally advocating for the sport of mountain biking.
